On the 2nd November, a team from Lagan Cement travelled to London to receive two awards at the MPA (Mineral Products Association) Health and Safety Awards in London.
In 2016, the Lagan Cement Civils Team of John Birmingham and Tom McEvoy suggested improvements to emptying the Cement Mill. These improvements would eliminate slips trips and falls, ensure safe means of transporting media and ensure safer operations of this task.
Following these improvements, the modification was submitted for an award at the Mineral Products Association Annual Health and Safety Awards. The MPA is the trade association representing the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar, and silica sand industries.
After being shortlisted, the MPA visited site to interview the Team and compile a video of the submission. At the awards ceremony in London, the submission received a Highly Commended Award.
In the Behavioural Safety category, a submission was made on behalf of all activities carried out in Lagan Products. Following the submission, the MPA Judge came to visit both sites. At the awards ceremony in London, Lagan Products received a certificate of Merit Award.
Receiving two awards is a testament to the effort and innovation that goes in to Lagan Products H&S activities across all our sites.
